Geographic Information System (GIS)

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is the foundation for how LSS functions in managing vessel logistics. GIS’s multi-faceted database and tables provide the capability for a geographic display and mapping of ports, shorebases, and all offshore locations. Additionally, data from the Mineral Management Service (MMS) and other data sources provides site-specific information for each location.

The GIS database provides the mapping and location information critical to integration with LSS’s Fleet/Vessel Optimization, Manifest, and Report modules. Additionally, GIS technology facilitates the implementation of GPS related systems into LSS’s architecture to provide vessel positioning and electronic log activity.
